Repair Downtown Sanitary Sewer System, Wake Island

Client: AFCEC

Location: Wake Island Atoll

Completion Year: 2024

Scope of Work:

  • Construction

Brice performed the design-bid-build construction of a new sanitary sewer collection system servicing the downtown area of Wake Island. Due to its poor condition and decreasing reliability, the wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal system had to be replaced. Specifically, Brice installed an air vacuum sewer collection system to serve 30 buildings that use an advanced wastewater treatment system. The old treatment system was abandoned in place. The government provided 100% design documents.

Brice connected the new sewer collection system within five feet of the exterior face of the existing buildings at the service line connection, including gravity services, vacuum sewer mains, vacuum sewer branches, vacuum sewer services, air vacuum system, treatment plant, and components. The treated water will be discharged to a drain field where infiltration chambers will allow the water to percolate into the ground.

In addition, Brice replaced 12,260 linear feet of the sanitary sewer network facility in the Downtown Area to include vacuum stations, sewer mains and service laterals, earthwork, electrical work, and demolition of items obstructing repair. We replaced the failing existing collection and treatment components by excavating and replacing sewer mains and laterals with appropriate HDPE between 4” and 10”and installed new valve pits and buffer tanks.

We also constructed a new advanced wastewater treatment system known as a packaged utility wastewater treatment system capable of withstanding up to 113,562 Kg of wastewater a day.
